Mission & Philosophy

San Carlos School is an educational ministry of San Carlos Cathedral providing a quality Catholic education for students in grades TK-8.

San Carlos School is a Catholic, co-educational TK-8 school of the Diocese of Monterey. San Carlos teaches traditional Catholic beliefs and responds to God's call by welcoming culturally, economically, and religiously diverse families. We collaborate with parents, the first educators, to foster the holistic development of the learner, create an environment in which diversity flourishes and help students unveil their full potential.

As a Catholic institution, we seek to prepare students to respond to modern challenges intellectually and peacefully, by upholding high academic standards. Our comprehensive curriculum promotes the development of problem solvers, critical thinkers, and confident leaders. Through cross-curricular integration, faculty and staff members strive to enhance coursework to reflect the needs of students in the 21st century. Students develop interpersonal communication skills through collaborative learning groups and autonomy through hands-on inquiry-based learning. In addition to gaining organizational and study skills necessary for high school, students learn how to set personal goals, manage time, and balance their extracurricular activities. San Carlos honors student growth through the celebration of outstanding achievement, community involvement, and extracurricular success.

The vibrant success of each student is dependent upon the school-wide partnership between families, faculty, and Church. As we build a community of faith, all are welcome to participate in collective outreach projects in our local and global communities. Together, we model Gospel values, cultivate spiritual gifts, and provide students with opportunities to deepen their relationships with God through service, leadership, and reflection. San Carlos School is committed to the development of the whole child, as they flourish into faith-filled, virtuous, compassionate, and conscientious stewards who respect all creation.
