Congratulations on your military orders to Monterey! San Carlos School is proud to welcome military families into our school community and has a longstanding history of providing excellent academics in a safe and welcoming community. The SCS community values the sacrifices military families make as they support and defend the sacred causes of justice and freedom around the world. Whether stationed here for 18 months or three years, each military family blesses our school and our community with their vast experiences, knowledge, and talents.
Convenient, Affordable, and Accessible
San Carlos School is centrally located in downtown Monterey close to the Naval Postgraduate School, the Coast Guard Station Monterey, the Presidio of Monterey, and the Defense Language Institute, as well as the military housing areas in La Mesa, the Ord Military Community (OMC) and on the Presidio. Families on military orders who transfer into or out of San Carlos School mid-year qualify for pro-rated tuition.
San Carlos School offers an on-site Extended Care Program that opens at 7:00 a.m. to allow service members with early morning classes to drop students off in a safe and secure setting on their way to class. Extended Care stays open until 5:30 p.m. to facilitate extra study sessions or late days in the office or lab.
Making an Easy Transition
San Carlos School currently employs military spouses and veterans as teachers, substitute teachers, and administrative professionals who understand the challenges that military families face as they move to new duty stations, oftentimes during the school year. Our valuable, first-hand perspective of these challenges offers us the unique ability to understand and provide support for the educational, emotional, and psychological challenges that accompany a military move.
As part of the application process, each student takes a placement test. Testing allows teachers to identify areas where incoming students may or may not need extra support to integrate fully into the academic rigor and expectations of the School. Dedicated staff members will ensure that incoming students receive individualized attention and support for the whole child. All sports teams and extracurricular clubs happily welcome mid-year transfers; athletes need not worry about moving mid-season, there is no penalty or waiting period before they can join sports teams.
